Background

Susannah Horgan began her career in the disability sector 30+ years ago. Her interest was in working with individuals facing communication and accessibility barriers. She has supported many people over the years who use alternate/non-verbal forms of communication. This experience has taught her valuable lessons about the importance of embodied listening and communication. Susannah uses this knowledge in her development and ongoing work as a therapist.

Susannah completed a Bachelor of Psychology (University of Western Ontario – 1986) followed by a certificate in Sign Language Interpretation (Grant MacEwan Community College – 1989). She has worked in a variety of community and educational settings over the years.

In 2001, she completed a Master’s in Applied Psychology and Community Rehabilitation at the University of Calgary and registered as a psychologist in Alberta in 2003. Since that time, Susannah has fulfilled a variety of clinical roles in health, community, educational, and clinical settings within the Southern Alberta Region. Her private practice, Passages Counselling + Consulting Services was founded in 2005.

Susannah learned French and English simultaneously from birth. She is equally fluent in reading, writing and speaking both languages. She is comfortable providing services in both languages.

Approach

Susannah has been providing psychotherapy to adults for many years. She  considers it a privilege to work with each person that she meets in therapy. Her commitment as your therapist is to welcome you wherever you are at in your life, to offer genuine support, and to accompany you on your journey of personal development and healing.

Susannah is a seasoned and skilled clinician with a passion for integrating knowledge of mind-body-spirit approaches into therapy. She uses a number of modalities that are informed by both research and practice as robust in their effectiveness. Among these are Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy, EMDR therapy, and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy for the treatment of various psychological difficulties, including the effects of trauma.

Susannah also practices and teaches yoga. She draw on this knowledge in therapy to facilitate the work of healing through body awareness, postural adjustment and gentle movement.

Susannah understands therapy as a process that can deepen a person’s relationship with themselves, with others and with life itself. She approaches life as a spiritual journey which in turn informs her practice of psychology. She welcomes persons of all backgrounds, orientations and abilities to her practice.
